no…. its not build around firefox. its strictly NOT related to firefox in any way. google build it from the ground up. you can’t make a lightweight, multiprocess browser like chrome by basing it off the most bloated browser available. besides, chromium is the open-source version of chrome. iceweasel is the open-source version of firefox. why would there be 2 sources for the same thing?

its linux based. idk what swish is or what version of photoshop you have but you can probably get those working through wine. 4Mb/s is moderately fast for home use so i wouldn’t worry about it

Hmm so will this new OS have support for running other apps, like a modified MS Word program (because almost all documents are in the .doc or .docx format) , because last time I checked you cant run very powerful programs like word or OpenOffice off the web directly.

Google DID make an operating system. thats what OS stands for. Operating System. Hence, Google Chrome “OS”. The OS is just a web browser with a boot loader, and a Linux like kernel too. Or rather, the browser is the OS. :)

I tried google chrome browser on my ubuntu computer, it’s built around Firefox, i found out cos of when there is an add on for Firefox or a missing plug-in, it behaves like Firefox, it even say that it’s Firefox at some points.

I need photoshop and swish on my computer

is it available on this OS ?!

cuz I like the idea , but if such programs are not available on this OS , it wouldn’t work for me ,,

also ,, since almost all the data is on the internet , I think it needs a really high speed ,, does it work great on 4 Mbits ?!

I can only see this working an a netbook since all they are used for is checking emails and streaming media. But its still a great idea

The os is on your computer, basically all the media files and stuff is not. So you can still “access it” but you can’t do much on it if it revolves around the internet.

I don’t think I got that out right.

this is a stupid idea! why doesnt googe just make an operating system?! A very stripped down easy to use os that mostly revolves around the internet and google applications O_o (mac??) lol

All the necessary operating system files are on your disk, everything else online with a cached copy on your disk too.

I can’t remember the last time a single program locking up crashed my whole computer. A simple trip to the task manager fixes most problems.

It’s an internet-based operating system you can install on your computer.

This would be great on a netbook or cheap laptop. I wouldn’t want it on a desktop though.

But then again, seeing the states of most peoples’ computers, maybe this wouldn’t be so bad. At least I wouldn’t have to worry about people calling me over to fix their computers because they felt compelled to mess around with settings and programs they didn’t know anything about.

People asking if games would run on this? Did you miss the part where it said everything is internet-based?

No, it’s an Operating system like Microsoft Windows 7..except all you can do with it is play with the internet. You cannot install games, files, programs to it…Think of it as a browser, period.

I can see only 1 fault, what if your internet is down, and you can’t access it. Then what?
