Google App Engine enables developers to build their web applications on the same scalable systems that power Google applications. For more info on Google App Engine: code.google.com

Random comment… The presenters kept apologizing for how ‘cold’ it was. Weather(.)com says it was about 57F at sunset with a 12mph wind and 47% humidity. Mountain View is 40-60F in winter and 60-80F in summer, with only 2.5in of rain in Apr-Oct. They must be spoiled by all that good weather.

As good as first speaker, as bad is second one (Kevin Gibbs?). After first speaker I almost loved Google App Engine, and after Kevin I started to hate it with my heart. Damn! Why some people don’t understand they just DON’T HAVE public speaking talent.
*bumping forehead against a wall* Doh!

Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47
Nope,.. i can choose my own programming language, have full os control and i can even login with ssh (i have my own server)
appengine is great but has its limits.
i am not going to shut up because i am right and you are wrong (in this case).
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47
Ahh… but you could say that about ANY web host. Couldnt you? so shut up.
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47

Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47

What are you kidding I used one of those photo’s in a court case, googel maps didnt show what was needed, also many towns are using the photo’s along with the tax maps, something that can never be done with Google E, I dont know how the pics were taken but they cover vast areas and they are very usefull. lololol I know you guys want to stick up for the underdog, but come on be real!

pictures taken from a helicopter from a side angle instead of straight down, not that exciting
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47
You guys are great public spekers
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47
Use Django which can be deployed in a bunch of environments and basically plugs into Google App Engine…
The IP issues are non-existent, of course you own your own code.
Python is a fine choice for a web scripting platform, but other languages are coming.
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47
App Engine Rocks!!!
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47

I got a song to play.
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47
Python Rules!
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47
you are bound to a certain programming language (python)
your code is at google, arent there legal concerns too consider! You want to own your own code!
Control over the OS is also important for some webapps.
This is all cool but it comes with a lot of limitations.

What false allegation, dickjoe? My allegation is fact: YouTube has yet to allow users to monetize their video content as promised 1 year and 3 months ago.
If a press release is about Google, Microsoft or Apple, journalists will just run with the press release without even doing any research – so the big dogs like Google literally get to write their own news – and they know it.
Wake up and smell the coffee – and put down the Google Kool-Aid every once in a while.

Zeekle – You make a off-topic random allegation (that I think is false) and a lazy connection to this topic. Oh and stupid use of expletives. You’re fired! have a nice day.
Nov 22, 2009 at 15:51:47
@zeekle, a good place to start is the getting-started guide — there’s a link to it from the URL that’s listed in the video info up above
also, look for the articles link on that site for tutorials/etc on specific coding needs

I cannot agree, Python is the fastest growing programming language in the past 5 years in the Tiobe, so developers are going Python …. as having some of the better evolution curves (if not the better) it also makes easier to have new developers, born into Python.
